[ Kanade finds herself rubbing her exhausted eyes when she hears the familiar voice. She's a little out of it, almost stumbling, but she manages. It's probably fine. ]
( is... is it just her or did the air go cold? mafuyu's fingers dig into her cardigan and her breath gets caught in her throat, like she's choking on it- three days? but
she doesn't remember anything-
what happened to her? what- )
N-no- that can't be-
( her heart is pounding so loudly it hurts almost as badly as her throat does- raspy, quick breaths go unnoticed as she tries to remember- )
[ The look in Kanade's eyes immediately shifts into one of concern and it's enough for her to take another step forward, closing the gap between them even more as she tries to reach out for Mafuyu's hands in an attempt to be a calming presence. ]
It's okay, you don't-- You don't have to think about it.
kanade is warm. and maybe there's something childish about it, but the moment mafuyu remembers she's there, she can't help but close the distance herself, clinging to kanade like a lifeline as she buries her face into kanade's shoulder and squeezes her eyes shut. )
[ No, it isn't, and they both know that, but she says the words regardless in attempts to be reassuring. She shifts her hands atop Mafuyu's to try and interlace their fingers together, to squeeze in a show of comfort. ]
( what does she even say to that? it's not. maybe it won't ever be. she doesn't know what happened to her or why, and it's been three days- three days of worrying kanade, and kanade neglecting herself, too.
in the end, she says nothing and only moves to wrap her arms around the other girl more, burying further into her shoulder and her own shoulder shake. kanade can likely hear her breath hitching in that high-pitched way- the way that happens when someone cries. )
They're actual emotions that Mafuyu is feeling and there's a part of her that hates how her friend has to experience learning about herself in this way. It makes something ugly twist in her chest.
There's no words.
So she opts not to say anything at all, trying to keep her emotions tied into her actions, awkwardly wrapping her other arm around the girls body, rubbing small circles on her back. ]
