[Shiemi had been staring at the two pieces of paper that had appeared in her hands when she awoke that morning. They were so familiar that she knew what they were even before she had looked at them. Her heart ached, but pounded with excitement at the same time.
She could summon Nee now!
She hadn't been able to before, but maybe with the summoning papers, she would be able to concentrate better and she could have her friend back!
Of course, she'd need to remember to keep Nee away from Mini Nee...
Shaking her head, Shiemi tucks her legs under her so she could get a little more comfortable on the mattress. She had drawn the sigil on one piece of paper, deciding to keep the other blank in case of an emergency. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, she concentrated on everything she had on the sigil and the magic on the paper for Nee.]
II. Datura
[There was something about the lake that Shiemi didn't like to begin with. She never had a reason to dislike it, but every time she passed it there had always been a sinking —hah— feeling in the pit of her stomach and she had just avoided it altogether.
Now she stood nearby, a hand clinging to the front of her kimono as she watched the shimmering lights underneath the surface. With every flicker of light, she could feel the hair on the back of her neck stand up on end.
Something wasn't right about it.]
III. Nightshade tw: vampirism
[Shiemi had never felt hunger like this before. It wasn't like a knife twisting in her stomach on days that she had gotten so busy she had skipped a meal or two. Not this kind of hunger felt cold, mind-numbing, and clawed at her throat as if she was parched for water, but nothing would satisfy.
Shiemi, having gone through more food than she was comfortable confessing and tossing them away in one bite or two when she felt sick, now sat on the floor near the bathroom by the food stalls.
Noah had been passing by, having eaten his fill of salad on a stick — file that under the weird food he's kind of obsessed with, because it's literally the dumbest concept — but when he sees Shiemi sitting on the ground, he wonders if the cursed food finally fucking killed her. He runs over in something of a panic, immediately crouching next to her.]
Shiemi? Are you okay? You didn't eat the jello salad, did you?!
Not because she didn't hear him — in fact, his voice was louder than it had ever been before. Not that Noah had ever been quite spoken, but her ears were ringing enough as it was. She could hear things she couldn't before, like the creaking of the rides that were too far away for anyone to really hear, or the showers in the building within being used.]
N-No.
[She squeezes her eyes shut for a moment, and when she opens them to look up at Noah, the usual bright emerald green color was replaced with black. She was about to speak again when her eyes fell on Noah's fluffy ears, then back down to his throat.]
[Who cares that Noah is a catboy right now! There are important things happening, Shiemi's dying!! And he doesn't have access to his one (1) healing spell, either!]
Hey, hold tight, okay? I think one of the bird people can do first-aid — I can take you there.
[He grips her waist and then makes to pick her up, which puts him in a disadvantageous position since his neck is going to be near her face.
[The moment he lifted her up, she was reaching around him and grabbing onto his shirt collar. The park shirt she was wearing had lifted up, exposing some of her skin to the touch. It almost felt like marble — cold, smooth, and hard.
Not only that, but her grip on him was definitely a lot stronger than it had been in the past. It's probably a good thing she grabbed his shirt and not his neck.]
I-I'm okay. J-Just thirsty.
[Hungry was the more appropriate term, but really what term would you use if your hunger consisted of only liquid?
The moment her head lulled against his chest, though, her eyes fluttered to his throat, watching his pulse in almost a trance-like state.]
[Yeah, her skin feels weird, but Noah also doesn't know her that well so he's not going to start going "omg your skin is weird girl help". Instead, he just carries on walking her to the medical tent. Noah's surprisingly fast, especially when he's worried, so.
Maybe they'll make it to the medical tent before she chews on him.]
Well, let me take you to the tent at least. Then I'll get you water.
[She didn't hear a word he said, mostly because she was so focused on his throat, and the sound of his heartbeat. It made every other noise seem a million miles away, underwater. She tried to resist, she really did, but the burning in her throat was too much, and before she could think better of it she was pulling herself up, gripping his shirt in her hands and sinking her teeth into his shoulder.
The rush of blood in her mouth was a relief, like drinking an ice-cold drink in the middle of a heatwave.
Then after a few seconds, she pulled away, scrunching her face up in disgust.
[Noah has three thoughts that all connect to each other in a simultaneous whirlwind. A weird little subway station of thoughts.
"Is she kissing my neck—" followed by a loud, "Nope that's a bite" and then, "OUCH THAT'S REALLY A BITE". And like, Noah's as bisexual as they come, but he'd prefer to take her on a date first, because it feels un-classy to skip the first date and even the first kiss, and she can be as forward as she wants to be but he's definitely not in the mood for hickeys right now because they barely know each other even if she's very cute—
and it's a good thing she pulls away first because Noah is trying to think of a way to politely say "oh uhhh that's a little much for me right now", he didn't know thirsty meant thirsty. Just that—
—just that it's suddenly really hard to breathe and he feels faint all of a sudden. Noah tries his best to put Shiemi on the ground, noting with some bleary hilarity that his tail has fluffed up out of alarm, but he's so dizzy that he mostly winds up dropping her before
[Shiemi doesn't seem to mind being tossed about and suddenly finding herself on the floor. In fact, she's just crawling towards him, shaking his shoulder, eyes wide and panicked as for the moment the hunger and thirst and burning all seem to fade in favor of... well panic.]
Noah is, however, dead to the world. Catboys are allergic to vampire venom. Noah will now proceed to lay on the ground for...
...
several hours? If Shiemi doesn't move him to a medical tent or continue to suck him like a capri sun, he'll just wake up in the middle of the sidewalk. Otherwise, he'll wake up in a medical tent, but it'll still take several hours.
You tell me, buddy, what's she doing? Leaving him there to be on the sidewalk and possibly get trampled? Picking him up and moving him? Killing him instantly? Make sure to hide the body!]
[Currently what she's doing is fighting off a panic attack. The little blood she took from him was enough to fight off at least the fog that had taken over her mind. Which, really, wasn't helping the utter fear that had gripped her because what the hell did she just do?
Okay, okay, Shiemi, think.
You're a smart girl. Kinda.
His blood had helped quench the thirst that had burned her throat, so that was something she was going to have to evaluate at a later time when Noah wasn't dying because of her.
So, obviously... obviously, maybe her bite was venomous to him? Mythology logic.]
I'msosorry
[Without much thought — because if she had to sit there and think about this she would just remain a statue for the rest of her life — Shiemi pressed her lips to the bite she had made and began to suck. The taste of his blood made her gag, and every now and then she had to cough and spit some out, but then she was right back with her lips pressed against the wound.
If she could suck out the venom then, in theory, he would be okay.
That's what TV taught her, and TV was obviously never wrong.]
It's strange... The magic seems to take hold and perform as usual, and something definitely begins to answer the call of her summons.
It doesn't, however, feel anything like summoning Nee felt like in the past. The back of her neck begins to prickle with unease, hair standing on end as a wave of goosebumps settles across her arms.
If she opens her eyes, the sigil in the center of the summoning paper is gone. In its place, a singular crimson eye blinks up at her with a soft squelching noise.
[She kept her eyes closed for a few moments longer, thinking that perhaps the feeling of unease was due to being in this place and how everything about being here had given her a sense of unease.
It wasn't until she heard the noise that her eyes fluttered open.
For a few more seconds, she stared at it, unable to process what exactly she was looking at. Then she was screaming, tossing it in the air, and crawling backward.]
